About Me

My name is Sarah Fredrickson and I have a B.A. in journalism from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. While at the University, I also minored in political science and received a certificate in New Media.

I will begin my professional career as a TEGNA Producer-In-Residence at KVUE in Austin, Texas June 2024. I am so excited for the opportunity to explore my passions as a producer and journalist in my first career.

My Time in College

During my time at Grady, I learned many valuable skills and engaged in many valuable professional experiences. During my journalism capstone class, my fellow classmates and I ran a twice weekly live broadcast reporting on local news for Athens-Clarke County and surrounding areas. During my time on Grady Newsource, I rotated through all the positions that a real newsroom has. I produced shows, ran the digital team, and even anchored the news, sports and weather. The most rewarding part of my experience was covering the Georgia Capitol. This was a beat that took a lot of work, but I volunteered myself to do it at the very beginning of the semester and continued to cover it for the entire 2024 legislative session. I navigated the complex process and covered the bills that mattered to the Northeast Georgia residents. I hope to continue my passion in covering political and legislative news.

I also worked as the Grady Newsource Senior Production Manager before even joining the class. In this role, I worked on the technical side of the newsroom. I helped run the volunteer production assistant program and directed most of the Newsource shows along with other shows that used the studio. I gained a lot of valuable experience from doing the technical behind the scenes work which helped inspire my passion for producing.

My senior year, I served as the Vice President of DiGamma Kappa, the University’s professional broadcasting society. During my time, I increased membership by 20%, curated professional networking events each week with professionals and peers, and organized two large events for our organization. We had the honor of honoring Ernie Johnson Jr. with the 2024 DiGamma Kappa Lifetime Achievement Awards and held a luncheon with the Georgia Association of Broadcasters to commemorate the honor. Our organization also had the opportunity to take 20 students to New York City to meet and network with some of our biggest alumni. While in New York, I had the opportunity to work as an associate producer for Grady Greats: Political Fact and Fiction. We invited Grady alumni to come speak at The View studios about what voters expected from the media in the 2024 presidential election.

Internship Experience

In the summer of 2023, I worked with the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C. as a production intern. In this role, I had the opportunity to shadow almost every position in the newsroom and worked on many assignments. I researched, wrote and edited multiple stories for digital and broadcast. I reported votes for Virginia’s primary elections, field produced during the D.C. Trump indictment and coordinated and managed the guest list for Maryland Gov. Wes Moore’s first town hall. I had the opportunity to work with the local community and volunteer at food drives across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

I served as the Social Media and Marketing Intern for the Athens Visitor’s Bureau during the fall of 2022. I gained a lot of valuable digital experience during this role while creating blogs and daily social media content.

Other Experience

Other previous work I have done includes serving as Director of Communication for Brumby Council. I also served in two leadership roles in my sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta as Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and as the Director of Parent Events. I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Copenhagen on a travel writing program
