Things to do this UGA Homecoming weekend in Athens

It’s finally another homecoming weekend in Athens. With cooler weather, fall music, autumn festivities, and Georgia football, Athens has a wide selection of activities to get you into the season this UGA homecoming weekend. Cheer the Bulldogs on to victory with some of these exciting events!

The Homecoming Parade is a tradition in which students, schools, colleges, alumni, and local businesses showcase their Georgia spirit to the University and Athens community. The parade starts at 6 p.m. traveling through the downtown Athens area and is free of charge to attend. Make sure to bring your UGA spirit!

After the parade, enjoy Athens’ busy music scene! Blues Traveler will be playing at the Georgia Theatre Friday night at 8 p.m. Blues Traveler has played over 2,000 live shows in front of more than 30 million people and recorded 14 studio albums selling more than 10 million copies around the world. You’ll be sure to hear the longest-charting radio single in Billboard history and their hit song “Run-Around” live for yourself!

Football isn’t the only big game in Athens this weekend. Come cheer on the UGA soccer team as they take on the Missouri Tigers this Friday at the soccer complex at 7 p.m. Tickets are free.

Join the Bulldog Nation for a beautiful Saturday of football and fun between the hedges this homecoming weekend! The Bulldogs will fight to extend their six-game winning streak against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Don’t miss out on the game day and fall atmosphere in downtown Athens and the university’s campus before and after the game. Happy homecoming!

Don’t have tickets to the game? No problem! Athens has a variety of restaurants, bars, and venues to spend your Saturday tailgating at. Come out to The Foundry this Saturday for food, drinks, live music, the game, pop-up shops from local Athens vendors, and more!

Here’s an easy way to start your Saturday morning with something new! Athens hosts many different farmers’ markets across the area. Spend hours at one or jump around to see all the different goodies Athens has to offer. The Marigold Market is every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pittard Park and even accepts SNAP/EBT. The Athens Farmers Market was named one of the “South’s Best Farmers’ Markets” by Southern Living Magazine and lasts from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Saturday at Bishop Park. Finally, the West Broad Farmers Market will have its monthly Saturday event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., but don’t worry if you miss it, because you can shop from them online as well!

Looking for a night out after the game? The Georgia Theatre has got you covered for Saturday night as well with the local Athens band Underground Springhouse! Their debut single “Joyfell” has allowed them to record two EPs and a self-titled album! You don’t want to miss the chance to get to hear some local Classic City music at one of our favorite music venues.

Okay, we get it! The football game took a lot out of you. Sounds like you need to wind down with a good movie. How about coming out to the Ciné for their Halloween movie series? They also have Drive-In movies! This Saturday’s movie is Fright Night so make sure to come wearing your brave face.

Wind down your weekend at one of our Athens local breweries. Our All-American Beer Town has six different breweries which you can explore on the Athens Beer Trail. Get your field guide, get your beer, get your stamps, and earn prizes when you’re done! The breweries are hosting events all weekend long for UGA Homecoming! On Sunday, come out to Southern Brewing Co. for the Aquemini Soul Music Festival. Creature Comforts Brewing Co. hosts different food trucks every Sunday and will have jazz music as well. Akademia Brewing Company will host live music at their Sunday brunch. Finally, Terrapin Beer Co. celebrates service industry workers on Sunday with a 30% off discount. Come to one or all of our Athens breweries for some good beer and some good times.

Each of these exciting options is sure to provide weekenders with the colorful fall Athens atmosphere. Enjoy the homecoming festivities!
